Dasha Shishkin

Art by Moscow-born, Brooklyn-based Dasha Shishkin. I am not normally a fan of contemporary art but Shishkin's work is unusually good, and reminds me a bit of Henry Darger and some Of Montreal cover art (which I believe is done by Kevin Barnes's brother, though I'm not totally sure of that).

Her work is being displayed at the Zach Feuer Gallery in Chelsea until June 11th, for those interested.

SATAN

It's no secret that, until very recently, New York had turned into Seattle overnight with constant overcast skies and an annoyingly steady drizzle. I vowed not to leave my room until the weather properly reoriented itself, but by day 17, I gave up and went into Dumbo to watch a documentary with Noel. It was still drizzly that day, and I was feeling oddly melancholic and angsty because, y'know, no one, like, gets me, y'know? Needless to say, my mood influenced my dress.

All day I listened to Theatre of Tragedy and Cradle of Filth, but only their early stuff, before they totally sold out and went mainstream

At least now we have proper summer weather, which I will take advantage of next weekend at the Hester Street Fair. Very excited.

Seychelles

Ugh, I've neglected blogging for a week now! My apologies, but between the sudden onslaught of subbing jobs I've been getting (clarification: I'm a certified substitute for the New York Public School system; when I'm not subbing, I'm slaving away in retail hell at a nearby Barnes & Noble; when I'm not working either of those jobs, I'm interning at a literary agency based in Chelsea) and the loss of Noel's camera in the backseat of a taxi, I haven't had the opportunity to do much blogging. In the meantime, here are some pictures from the Seychelles event I attended a few weeks back, courtesy of Smilebooth:

I met the very lovely Keiko of Keiko Lynn and Claire of De Lune. Both of them were incredibly sweet, down to earth, and--need I say it?--beautifully dressed, and I hope I'll be seeing more of them since we're all in New York!

I had probably indulged a little too much in the free vodka by this point...

Finally, HERE is a painfully embarrassing picture of me on the Seychelles blog. I appear to be posing for a prom picture or yearbook portrait while trying to suppress a grimace...

I will have a proper outfit post soon, promise.

Spring

On this miserably rainy day, I am longing for the gorgeous spring weather we had a few weeks ago.

These pictures are a couple of weeks old, so I am sad to report that my hair no longer has a pastel purple chunk in it. I used Manic Panic hair dye and it faded rather quickly--after maybe a week's worth of shampooing. I still have a giant tub of the dye left over, so I can easily color my hair again if I'm feeling so inclined (which I am, despite my mother's insistence that I look like an old lady who left her toner in for too long).
Today's rainstorm guarantees that I'll be spending the evening indoors baking cupcakes and watching Antonioni's Le Amiche. Or maybe I'll watch The Passion of the Christ; the world IS ending on May 21st, after all.

I'm a sucker for girly dresses with pockets, so I snatched this one up the moment I saw it in Zara, despite it being slightly too big for me (particularly in the chest area--no surprise there). It's been tucked away in the back of my closet for months, waiting for me to accrue the funds to have it tailored. Finally, in a moment of rash judgement, I decided to wear it out without consulting anyone's opinion on its fit. For most of the day, the dress and I were fine, but if a slight breeze came through... My skirt flew up, my top slouched down, and suddenly I was exposing myself to a yuppie mom walking her French Bulldog. Let's just say I tried to spend most of my time indoors (in Crumbs, of course).

This past Wednesday I attended the Seychelles Garden Party in the city, hosted by the lovely Keiko Lynn (my longtime blog idol). There were yummy dishes, free drinks, pretty shoes, and fashionable girls. I'll post pictures as soon as I stop being lazy and upload the pictures from my camera.

I will end this post with a tune that's been stuck in my head for several days straight:
